Jay Young - Architectural Designer
Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Gabe’s passion for design and the environment led him circuitously to Portland, Oregon. After completing a Bachelor of Environmental Design at Texas A&M University, he was called to the peaks and valleys of the North Cascades, so on to Seattle he traveled. While there, he worked for the architect, Robert Swain, and refined his understanding of how to create an authentic yet contextual sense of place. Inspired by Bob’s passion for design, Gabe went on to receive a Master's of Architecture at the University of Oregon in 1999.
While working with Holst Architecture for 10 years during Portland’s remarkable growth, Gabe designed and completed projects that were quite literally at the city's edge. Today, many of those projects are vibrant district centers, such as The Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center and the 937 Condominiums. He continues to be inspired by the ways in which these projects combined the best ideas in design and sustainability.
Gabe also serves as the Director of Product Design at Community Forest Products.
